I’ve been over some good horse books, and books that have both horses and fantasy, but I haven’t done just fantasy books yet! So, here’s a list of great fantasy series!
- The Fireborn Epic by Gillian Bronte Adams
This series is currently comprised of two books, Of Fire and Ash and Of Sea and Smoke, with a third book coming! It’s a great series, and lives up to the series title of being an epic! I got sidetracked reading other books, so I haven’t finished Of Sea and Smoke quite yet, but so far, I absolutely loved it! Of Fire and Ash was spectacular as well. There’s elemental horses, perfectly developed characters, an intriguing plot, and an epic fantasy setting. What more could you want? There’s also war, battles, and awesome fights in this series. In addition, they are very realistic as far as the horse part goes. I won’t go into too much detail about this series since I’ve already mentioned it several times, and since I plan to do a review about it!
- Shielded and Untethered by KayLynn Flanders
This duology is one of those that I was really sad when it ended. I loved both of these books, and even though sequels don’t always live up to the first book, this one did! These books have magic that runs in bloodlines, great fights, a princess undercover as a guard, and a pretty great romance side plot! It’s totally clean, and perfectly done. I can’t say enough about these books!
- The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
Also referred to as the Eragon series or the Eragon books, this series is made up of five books: Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, Inheritance, and the newest one, Murtagh. Those who read the first four books years ago have been waiting for Murtagh to come out – I’ve been waiting for about seven years, if you’re counting from when I first read the series! It’s definitely worth it though, and I’m not complaining. I’m just happy that there’s another one! This series has dragons, a unique magic system, absolutely epic worldbuilding, and so much more! These books have consistently stayed in my top favorites, and I love coming back to them and rereading them. I plan to do a review of each book individually, and I do recommend these books!
- The False Prince Series by Jennifer A. Nielsen
There are five books in this series (The False Prince, The Runaway King, The Shadow Throne, The Captive Kingdom, and The Shattered Castle). I highly recommend all of them, but keep in mind that these books have moments that devastate you as a reader! I personally think this is a good thing, but in the moment I sure didn’t! Something that I absolutely love about this series is that it has sort of an unreliable narrator thing going on, where you don’t know everything that the main character does – even though it’s in first person, so you technically see all his thoughts! It’s spectacularly done, and I’ve never seen another book or series that does this nearly as well, not even close. They’re pretty awesome books!
- The Fablehaven and Dragonwatch Series by Brandon Mull
The reason these two are grouped together is because the Dragonwatch books are a sequel series to the Fablehaven series. I couldn’t get enough of this series! The first Fablehaven book seemed like a younger middle grade book (nothing wrong with that!), but the others quickly got more complex, with intricate plots, well-developed characters, and an overall spectacular story! Both series are middle grade books, but they can be enjoyed by anyone, no matter what age you are! Every book that I recommend is clean, though. The Dragonwatch series has the same characters (with some additions, of course!) and the same quality! I would be delighted if there were more of these books.
- The Five Kingdoms Series by Brandon Mull
This is a series with five books, and I loved every page of it! As with the previous books on the list, the Five Kingdoms are the sort of middle grade books that can be truly enjoyed by everyone. There’s a completely unique world, great characters, and a cool plot! The main character, Cole, is realistic and a perfect main character. I can’t say enough about this series or the author’s other books!
- The Beyonders Trilogy by Brandon Mull
I know you’re probably tired of seeing his name on this list, but he has some great books! There are three Beyonders books, and they’re awesome. There’s a complex plot (which I love), a whole cast of interesting characters, and the whole thing is basically one big quest which involves a lot of smaller things. It’s Brandon Mull’s most epic series, and it is truly spectacular. I highly recommend all of his books, but this one is the most complex – something I really like about it. They’re some pretty great books.
Unlike some of my other posts, these aren’t actually ranked in order of how good they are. All of them are great, and it’s hard to say that one is better than the others! Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever read any of these, and if you have, tell me what you thought!
